On Thursday 16 and Saturday 18 September, the village of Eaux-Bonnes will open its doors to you for Heritage Days. For this cultural event, we have put together a program for all tastes.

Thursday September 16: Conference on Thermalism

The Heritage Days are a cultural event particularly rich in discoveries: this year, the region New Aquitaine elected the emblematic village of'' Eaux-Bonnes, nestled at nearly 750 meters above sea level, to welcome this moment of sharing of heritage.

To start the Heritage Days, you can attend the conference "Hydrotherapy for all: isolated bathing establishments in the Atlantic Pyrenees (XNUMXth-XNUMXth centuries)".

During this conference, the researcher Viviane DELPECH, working for the European program TCV-PYR (hydrotherapy, Villégiature Pyrenees culture), will explain the importance of hydrotherapy in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. Through a selection of seven establishments (Rescue Baths, Rébénacq and Gan in the Ossau valley, Ogeu, Escot, Saint-Christau towards the Aspe valley, Camou-Cihigue en Soule), Viviane Delpech invites you to discover this form of care, by doing emerge the salient features of these modest establishments, between the significance of the landscape, the model of local construction and references to official thermal architecture.

Saturday September 18: a day particularly rich in discovery

Come discover and admire the beauty of the Church of Saint-Jean Baptiste de la Trinité, at 10 a.m. and 14 p.m.

Accompanied by the researcher Jean-Philippe MAISONNAVE, come and participate in the visit entitled " Eaux-Bonnes in all its forms: the Church of Saint John the Baptist of the Trinity »

Here you can discover the architecture as well as the secrets of the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church, the construction of which was initiated in the second half of the XNUMXth century by Empress Eugenie and made necessary by the influx of visitors to the spa. Between modernity and traditional techniques, the church is characterized by exceptional richness of its ornamentation.

It was in the XNUMXth century that the church became a fundamental element of social and urban organization, including in the seaside and mountain resorts. Quickly after the construction of the thermal establishment of Eaux-Bonnes, the Church of Saint-Jean Baptiste was therefore built.

Storytelling walk: discovering the heritage and history of the spa, at 10 a.m. and 15:30 p.m.

Come and participate in a guided tour, narrated by David BORDES, which takes you back in the footsteps of Empress Eugenie at the time of the XNUMXth century Eaux-Bonnes, a glorious period when the spa town was compared to a "little Paris".

Take a stroll through Eaux-Bonnes during a singing stroll, from 18 p.m.

At the end of the day, come and walk on some musical notes accompanied by words and rhythms with Jean-Luc Mongaugé. You will be transported into the rich imagination of the Béarn singer, on foot, for a most original walk.

Young and old will appreciate the discovery in music and storytelling of the village of Eaux-Bonnes, with explanations on the history of this typical Pyrenean village. You will discover another cultural aspect of our beautiful Ossau Valley.
