Starting point

1

From Gourette to the Coste de Goua hut

From the square above the Le Cardet holiday centre, go down under the tennis court (follow the sign Parcours sportif) where you cross the wooden bridge at the end you turn left on the path which goes up following the red and white markers of the GR10. You then enter the Bois de Saxe, cross the bridge that spans the Valentin stream. In the forest, cross the bridge over the Valentin. On the left, follow the path which climbs steeply in the forest. You will come across several small waterfalls on your way up. Stay vigilant: in the forest, roots and stones can be hidden by leaves that have fallen to the ground. At the exit of the Bois de Saxe admire the peaks of the Latte de Bazin which offer a mineral decor mixed with the greenery of the beeches of the wood. After a few minutes you will see the remains of the Cabane du Plaa de Batch.

2

From the hut to the lake of Anglas

At the end of it, after a steep passage, go up to the right in a meadow. Cross a track and continue to climb. At the level of the Coste de Goua hut, which stands on the opposite bank on the right, follow the path which goes up into the valley. Leave on your left a track which goes towards the torrent and continue to climb on the steep and stony path. After a short descent, turn right towards the Anglas waterfall, visible above. At the level of scree, on the left, continue to climb steeply. On your left stands the Pic du Sanctus culminating at 2482 meters above sea level. At the top of the climb, turn left, cross a ford on the outlet of the lake. On your right you can see the Aiguilles du Pene Sarrière with its various climbing routes.

3

From Anglas to Gourette

On the right, head towards a large rock, the lake is hidden behind. Behind you the valley gradually recedes. The last part of the route is on a stony path with many scree. Continue towards the waterfall located just below Lake Anglas. Continue on the trail uphill to the lake. Around you you will find the first vestiges of the exploitation of the mines of Anglas which now mingle with the pastoral landscapes offering the summer pastures to the herds of sheep, cows and horses that you may have come across during your itinerary. Return by the same path or continue for those who cross the Pyrenees by the GR10. The return is made by the same path, always following the red and white markings of the GR10.
